Bihar Faces Persistent Cold, Dense Fog Likely to Continue

Patna: South-west and northern parts of Bihar remain engulfed in dense fog, while strong westerly winds have intensified the cold wave. This has resulted in cold day conditions across Patna and several other districts. The minimal difference between maximum and minimum temperatures has ensured the chill persists throughout the day.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather remained dry across the state in the past 24 hours. Maximum temperatures ranged between 13.4 and 20.6 degrees Celsius. Many areas recorded a drop of 5 to 7 degrees Celsius in maximum temperature during this period. The lowest minimum temperature was noted at 8.2 degrees Celsius in Chhapra, with state-wide minimum temperatures varying from 8.2 to 14.5 degrees Celsius.

Some regions also saw a rise of two to three degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures over the last 24 hours. The department reported the lowest visibility at 50 metres in Valmiki Nagar, West Champaran.

The forecast indicates that dry weather will prevail across Bihar for the next seven days. Moderate to dense fog is expected to persist in many parts over the next two to three days. There is no significant change anticipated in maximum temperatures during the next five days. However, minimum temperatures are likely to fall by two to three degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, in Muzaffarpur, due to continuous extreme cold and dropping minimum temperatures, district magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen has ordered the suspension of academic activities in schools as a precaution for children’s health and safety. All government and private schools up to class eight will remain closed from 5 January to 7 January. Classes for students above class eight will operate only from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM during this period.
