Patna, May 5: Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary is set to expand his cabinet on May 7 in Bihar. The oath-taking ceremony will take place at the historic Gandhi Maidan, with preparations underway. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several key leaders from the NDA are expected to attend the event.
This marks the first government led by the BJP in Bihar. The cabinet expansion has been anticipated since the election results from five states were announced.
Bihar BJP President Sanjay Sarawagi spoke to the media on Tuesday, confirming that the ceremony will occur at Gandhi Maidan, where the Governor will administer the oath of office to the ministers. He mentioned that the cabinet expansion on May 7 will include prominent leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister JP Nadda, BJP National President Nitin Naveen, and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Following Nitish Kumar’s resignation from the Chief Minister’s position, Samrat Chaudhary took the oath as Chief Minister on April 15, along with JD(U) leaders Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav as Deputy Chief Ministers. The opposition has been critical of the government regarding the delay in cabinet expansion.
Discussions about the cabinet expansion are heating up. Sources indicate that a 50-50 formula for ministerial distribution is expected. On May 7, 12 ministers from the BJP, 11 from JD(U), 2 from LJP (R), and one each from the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will take their oaths. Some ministerial positions will remain vacant for now.
Previously, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President Nitin Naveen, and several senior leaders during a visit to Delhi. It is believed that these leaders have given the green light for the cabinet expansion.
