Bihar Braces for Extreme Heat Followed by Severe Storms and Rainfall
Patna, Bihar April 23, 2025 โ A sharp shift in weather patterns is set to strike Bihar this week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a dual alert: a severe heatwave warning for April 24 and 25, followed by a storm and heavy rainfall advisory for April 26 and 27. The sudden weather transition could impact several districts across the state, putting residents and infrastructure on high alert.
Scorching Heat to Grip Bihar for Two Days
The IMD has forecasted intense heatwave conditions across multiple districts in Bihar. On Thursday and Friday, regions such as West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, and Sheohar are expected to face extreme temperatures. Southern and eastern parts of the state, including Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Aurangabad, Begusarai, Arrah, and Buxar, are also bracing for relentless heat.
Meteorologists warn that temperatures in these areas could soar well above normal, with dry winds and high UV levels contributing to health hazards such as heatstroke. Schools, outdoor workers, and vulnerable populations are advised to take extra precautions.
Weekend Weather U-Turn: Thunderstorms and Rainfall Expected
Relief is on the horizon as Biharโs weather is predicted to take a dramatic turn starting Saturday. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for April 26 and 27, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across the Seemanchal, Kosi, and eastern Bihar regions.
Districts including Purnia, Araria, Kishanganj, Supaul, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Banka, and Jamui are likely to witness wind speeds up to 60 km/h accompanied by heavy rain. The risk of lightning strikes and localized flooding remains high, urging authorities and residents to remain cautious.
Authorities Urge Vigilance Amid Rapid Weather Swings
The Patna Meteorological Centre, in its seven-day bulletin, has highlighted the unpredictability of Aprilโs climate in Bihar. Just weeks after storms and lightning wreaked havoc across the state, the current forecast suggests another cycle of extreme conditions.
Disaster management teams are on alert, with local administrations preparing contingency plans for both heatwave-related emergencies and potential storm damage. The public is encouraged to monitor weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during peak heat hours, and secure loose objects outdoors ahead of the weekend storms.
