New Delhi, April 24: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, led by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, will seek to secure a confidence vote during a special session of the Bihar Assembly on Friday. The Assembly’s Principal Secretary, Poonam Sinha, has issued an official notification regarding the session.
Before the session begins, Speaker Prem Kumar chaired an all-party meeting, urging leaders to ensure smooth proceedings in the house. Representatives from various political parties assured their full cooperation.
Attendees included Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Vice President Narendra Narayan Yadav, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Vinod Narayan Jha, Alok Kumar Mehta, Manohar Prasad Singh, Madhav Anand, Raju Tiwari, Indrajeet Prasad Gupta, Satish Kumar Singh Yadav, Kumar Sarvjeet, and Praful Manjhi, among several other legislators.
Speaking about the upcoming session, Deputy Chief Minister and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary stated that the house will discuss and vote on the confidence motion presented by the new Bihar government. He assured full support from the state government to ensure smooth proceedings in the Assembly. This will be the second session of the 18th Bihar Assembly.
The Assembly Secretariat has formally notified all legislators, including the Chief Minister and members of the council of ministers. Following the political changes in the state after Nitish Kumar’s move to the Rajya Sabha, Samrat Chaudhary took office on April 15.
According to constitutional provisions, the new Chief Minister, Samrat Chaudhary, must prove a majority in the Assembly to legitimize the state government.
In the Bihar Assembly elections held in November 2025, the NDA secured a majority with 202 legislators, placing the government in a strong position ahead of the confidence vote.
After the formation of the new government, departments have been allocated among ministers. Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary currently oversees 29 departments, including General Administration, Home, Cabinet Secretariat, Vigilance, and Elections.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has been assigned 10 departments, including Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs, while Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav is in charge of eight departments, including Energy and Planning & Development.
Meanwhile, an expansion of the Bihar Cabinet is still pending.
