Guwahati, February 23: Senior leader Bhupen Bora, who recently switched from Congress to the BJP, has expressed sharp criticism towards the Gandhi family. He alleged that despite spending many years in Congress, he was denied a meeting for seven months. In contrast, he praised the BJP leadership for their responsiveness.
Bora stated, “After years in Congress, I could not secure a meeting with the Gandhi family, including Sonia Gandhi, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, or Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, for seven months.” He further claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah met him within five minutes.
Speaking to the media, Bora remarked, “I waited for seven months, but I couldn’t meet the Gandhi family. However, Amit Shah met me in just five minutes. This highlights the difference between the two parties.”
He also pointed out that it took Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi nine months to visit him, while Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived at his home within 24 hours of his decision to leave Congress. Bora emphasized, “This clearly shows how leaders are valued in different political cultures.”
Additionally, he claimed that the Congress party has lost touch with its grassroots workers and leaders. Bora accused the party of internal confusion, lack of access to leadership, and delays in decision-making, which have diminished Congress’s influence in the state.
It is noteworthy that Bhupen Bora joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday, in the presence of state unit chief Dilip Saikia and senior leaders. Following his induction, he met with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and later with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
