Bengaluru, 4 January: The 10th Bengaluru Open 2026 at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium witnessed exciting action on Sunday during the first round of qualifying matches.
India’s Siddharth Rawat secured his place in the qualifying final round by defeating compatriot Nitin Kumar Sinha 6-3, 7-5.
Rawat took early control of the match, confidently claiming the first set. Although Sinha made a strong comeback in the second set by breaking Rawat’s serve and taking the lead, Rawat managed two crucial breaks to close out the match in straight sets.
In other first-round qualifying matches, Indian players Dev Javia and Adil Kalyanpur put up spirited performances. However, both fell in hard-fought three-set battles against higher-ranked opponents Dominic Palan and Eero Vasa respectively.
Players qualifying for the final round on Monday include Kuan-Yi Lee (Chinese Taipei), Ryotaro Taguchi and Jumpei Yamasaki (Japan), Mitsuki Wei Kang Leong (Malaysia), Aziz Ouka (Tunisia), Niels Visker (Netherlands), along with French players Arthur Raymond and Felix Balshaw.
Sunday also features a qualifying match between Ukraine’s Yurii Zhavakian and France’s Alexis Gautier, marking the end of the first day of qualifiers.
The main draw matches will begin on Monday afternoon, promising thrilling contests for the local tennis fans. Wildcard entrant Manas Dhamne will face Croatia’s fifth seed Matej Dodig, followed by an all-Indian clash between former champion Sumit Nagal and local favourite SD Prajwal Dev.
