Bengal BJP announces ten-day campaign against Trinamool’s “atrocities, corruption”

Kolkata, April 19 : Demanding restoration of democracy in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will take out a grand rally and hold a satyagraha as part of a ten-day campaign next month in protest against what it called “unprecedented atrocities” committed by the ruling Trinamool Congress.The programme would be launched on May 2, the first anniversary of the declaration of results in the 2021 Assembly polls, and continue till May 11, State BJP President Sukanta Majumdar announced on Tuesday.Accusing the Trinamool-sponsored goons of murdering a large number of BJP cadres and supporters following the announcement of the Assembly poll results Majumdar said on Home Minister Amit Shah is also likely to visit the state May 4-6, though the programme was yet to be finalised.”If Shah comes, we will organise a rally in North Bengal and undertake other programme,” said Majumdar.On May 2, a grand rally will be taken out in the city in protest against post-poll violence since last year and “unbridled corruption” in the state. The programme has been christened “Grand rally with thepledge of restoring democracy”. “The post-poll violence that started on May 2 last year, continues to this day. Incidents of corruption are coming to light daily. The rallyists will raise slogans against thesehappenings,” said Majumdar.On May 3, all BJP public representatives from South Bengal will keep fast at the base of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in the Maidan area here. After the fast, they would collect funds for helping the families of BJP workers who were killed in the violence.The BJP leaders would visit the families of those killed in violence since May 2, 2021, and hand over money and clothes as Bengali New Year gifts.Processions will be brought out in every South Bengal administrative block on May 8 and 9. The next day, a satyagraha would be held in Kolkata in the presence of the families of martyrs, who would meet Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar in the evening.The 10-day campaign will conclude on May 11 with processions in every district.
