BCCI Takes Action Against Arshdeep Singh Following Vaping Controversy Involving Yuzvendra Chahal

New Delhi, May 8: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued strict operational and safety guidelines for IPL franchises and players. This comes just hours after reports surfaced that the board has instructed Arshdeep Singh to cease his behind-the-scenes vlogging activities.

The BCCI’s decision appears to be a response to a controversy involving Yuzvendra Chahal. According to a report by NDTV Sports, the board has asked the Punjab Kings bowler to stop vlogging after a travel video allegedly showed Chahal vaping during the team’s flight to Hyderabad.

The issue gained traction when clips from Arshdeep’s vlog went viral on social media. In these clips, Chahal is seen appearing to hide something under his left palm before making a gesture that suggests vaping. The footage also displayed a small puff of smoke. The original version uploaded on Arshdeep’s YouTube channel reportedly included the entire scene, which was later edited out. However, the footage had already reached a large audience online.

So far, neither the BCCI nor Punjab Kings has released an official statement regarding the matter. This incident marks the second vaping-related issue in the IPL this season. Previously, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag faced allegations of vaping inside the dressing room during a match against Punjab Kings in New Chandigarh. Vaping is banned in India, leading to a 25% fine on Parag’s match fee and a demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct at Level 1.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has sent a new eight-page guideline to all ten IPL franchises. This document emphasizes the need to strengthen security and discipline, addressing concerns raised by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACSU). Under the new Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), there will be strict monitoring of players, team staff, and franchise activities.

The board has made it clear that surprise checks and stringent rules will be implemented to maintain the integrity and security of the league. The BCCI states that players must demonstrate greater responsibility in their public and private activities to safeguard the image of the IPL.
