Silhat, May 20: Bangladesh has achieved a historic 2-0 victory in their home Test series against Pakistan. This marks Bangladesh’s first Test series win against Pakistan on home soil. Following the second Test victory, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed a strong desire to play more Test matches against top teams like India, Australia, and England, both at home and away.
In a post-match media interaction, Shanto stated, “We want to play more Tests against Australia, England, and India, both at home and away. Every match we play provides us with new experiences, which helps in building the team. Otherwise, playing repeatedly against the same team in similar conditions makes it challenging to develop.”
The captain also emphasized the importance of the International Cricket Council (ICC) providing opportunities to play against all teams. “It’s a positive development that we are getting more matches. Competing against Australia, England, and India will significantly benefit our team. As a Test-playing nation, we still have a lot to accomplish,” he added.
Reflecting on the final hour of the match, Shanto admitted, “It’s difficult to manage emotions in the last hour. Honestly, they were batting well, and we felt some pressure. However, compared to previous Test matches, we managed our emotions better and didn’t panic. There is still room for improvement in this area.”
As a captain, he expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance. “Playing 10 days of Test cricket across both matches is certainly a point of pride for us. We typically don’t play this format as often. The entire team contributed, with every player putting in hard work, including the batting, bowling, and coaching staff.”
Shanto also praised wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das, who was named Player of the Match in the second Test. “Liton batted responsibly. This indicates that we are on our way to becoming a strong team, and everyone in the dressing room had faith that Taijul would support him while Liton kept scoring runs. Liton’s batting was crucial for our victory in this match.”
After winning the first Test by 104 runs, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 78 runs in the second Test, clinching the series 2-0.
