Bandra Violence Case: 16 Arrested Amid Alleged Conspiracy Against Police

Mumbai, May 21: In the Bandra East area of Mumbai, police have arrested 16 suspects in connection with a violent clash that occurred during an anti-encroachment operation. Investigations reveal that a significant conspiracy was orchestrated before the attack on police officers.

Preliminary police inquiries indicate that the suspects acted in collusion to assault the police team. According to the FIR, the incident took place on May 20 near the Bandra East railway station in the impoverished Nagar area, during the removal of illegal structures. This operation was conducted following court orders and a set demolition schedule. Authorities deployed personnel from the Mumbai police, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Home Guard, and other staff for the operation.

As officials were carrying out the demolition, a crowd of approximately 100 to 150 people gathered and began protesting. Police officers reportedly made repeated announcements urging the crowd to disperse peacefully, but tensions escalated as the crowd became aggressive and attempted to obstruct the operation.

The FIR further claims that some individuals in the crowd began chanting slogans and attempted to disrupt the demolition efforts. Amid the chaos, police officers and officials present at the site were pelted with stones and other objects, heightening tensions in the area. Subsequently, police used minimal force to regain control and detained several individuals.

Several police officers sustained injuries during the incident, particularly those deployed for the operation. The FIR names 10 suspects and charges them with unlawful assembly, rioting, obstructing public servants from performing their duties, damaging public property, and assaulting government officials. Additionally, cases have been registered against 100-150 unidentified individuals.

Police officials are reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence to identify those allegedly involved in the violence. To prevent further disturbances, security in the area has been significantly increased.
