Mumbai, February 19: News reports frequently highlight cases of brides facing harassment for dowry or women taking drastic steps due to unbearable circumstances in their in-laws’ homes. Such stories have become so commonplace that they no longer significantly impact our lives. The repercussions are felt only by those directly involved, while society often blames the daughters.

After marrying off their daughters, very few parents stand up against societal taunts to bring their daughters back home with dignity and encourage them to lead a proud life. Some inspiring incidents from certain regions in Uttar Pradesh showcase fathers bringing their daughters back home with traditional music after they have endured domestic violence. This shift in mindset is just the beginning.

The film “Band Baja Betiyan,” directed by Gajraj Rao, poignantly illustrates the touching relationship between a father and daughter. The film’s first glimpse has sparked conversations on social media. A viral clip shows a father confronting societal and familial pressures, hearing phrases like “Now she belongs to another household,” “She is someone else’s wealth,” and “Our responsibility ends here.” Yet, the daughter’s pain transcends these remarks. The narrative depicts a father who, accompanied by traditional music, brings his daughter back home after her wedding. This film, while simple, uniquely challenges societal perceptions of daughters post-marriage.

Although the release date for “Band Baja Betiyan” has not been announced, it features several minor characters who effectively portray the middle-class narrative. Audiences can also expect to see some new faces in the film.
