New Delhi, April 7: Renowned rapper and singer Badshah appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Tuesday, offering a written apology for his controversial song “Tatti.” The hearing was chaired by NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, with the song’s director Joban Sandhu, producer Hiten, and Mahavir Singh also in attendance. The commission stated that the song’s lyrics and presentation were against the dignity and decorum of women.
During the hearing, Vijaya Rahatkar emphasized that such presentations send a negative message about women in society. She instructed all parties involved—the singer, producer, and director—not to repeat such actions in the future. Following this, all concerned parties submitted an unconditional written apology and expressed regret for the societal damage caused.
Badshah assured the commission that he would take an active role in promoting women’s empowerment. He announced plans to release a positive song focused on women’s empowerment within the next four months. Additionally, he pledged not to engage in any controversial activities moving forward.
In a significant gesture, Badshah proposed funding the education of 50 economically disadvantaged girls and committed to raising the necessary funds.
Last month, in March, Badshah released the song “Tatti,” which faced backlash for its use of objectionable language towards women and for depicting schoolgirls in uniforms. The Haryana State Women’s Commission summoned Badshah regarding the song, leading the state police to remove 857 links related to the song from social media, including 154 videos and 703 short clips.
Following the controversy, Badshah had previously issued an apology on social media on March 7, stating that he never intended to convey a negative message towards any woman or girl.
