Ranchi, May 8: Babulal Marandi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly and former Chief Minister, has firmly responded to opposition parties questioning the recent victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal.
In a detailed post on the social media platform ‘X’, Marandi stated unequivocally that the ‘lotus’ in Bengal has flourished not due to gifts from the Election Commission but through the ‘blood’ of BJP workers.
He described the party’s tumultuous political journey and the sacrifices of its workers as a ‘bloody struggle.’ Marandi emphasized that those attributing the victory to Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) or central forces are unaware of the ground realities in Bengal. The path to power has been paved with countless bodies and burning homes.
Marandi highlighted the 34 years of oppression under the Left and the alleged horrific rule of the Trinamool Congress for 15 years. He noted that BJP workers have endured false cases, imprisonment, and social ostracism. His social media post referenced the party’s 15 years of perseverance.
He recounted the journey from having just one MLA in 2011 to achieving a significant majority in 2026, attributing this success to the tears of mothers who lost their sons in the fight for democracy. Marandi pointed out that entire villages were devastated for the ‘crime’ of voting for the BJP, from Nandigram to Birbhum.
In a poignant example, he wrote, “The booth president whose body is found hanging from a tree in the morning stands as a polling agent at the same booth by noon, with a stone on his heart. This courage is not given by the Election Commission, but by self-respect.”
Marandi warned opposition parties that calling this victory a ‘favor’ is an insult to the martyrs who held the BJP flag amidst hanging nooses and bomb blasts. He declared it a victory for Bengal’s self-respect and the sacrifices of its workers.
