New Delhi: The AYUSH Ministry has received a budget allocation of ₹4,500 crore for the fiscal year 2026-27, marking an increase of more than 10 percent compared to the previous year, said Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav on Sunday.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her ninth consecutive budget speech, proposed the establishment of three new All India Ayurveda Institutes to enhance high-quality education, research, and tertiary care in Ayurveda.
She also announced plans to upgrade AYUSH pharmacies and drug testing laboratories to meet higher certification standards. This move aims to strengthen the quality assurance system for Ayurvedic and other traditional medicines while generating demand for more skilled personnel in the sector.
Highlighting the ministry’s growth, Jadhav stated that the AYUSH industry is expanding rapidly on a large scale.
The Finance Minister further proposed to upgrade the World Health Organization’s Global Centre for Traditional Medicine located in Jamnagar. The upgrade will facilitate evidence-based research, training, and awareness on traditional medicine at a global level.
Sitharaman noted that enhancing the centre will improve the overall quality of research and help bring traditional medicine centres to a higher standard. Collaboration with WHO is expected to aid in gaining international recognition for India’s traditional medicine systems.
Additionally, the budget includes plans to set up AYUSH centres within five regional medical value tourism hubs. These centres will integrate AYUSH services with diagnostics, post-treatment care, and rehabilitation in comprehensive medical tourism complexes.
