New Delhi: All-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the ongoing three-match ODI series against New Zealand due to injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named Ayush Badoni as his replacement, marking Badoni’s maiden call-up to the Indian team.
The BCCI officially announced on its social media that Ayush Badoni will join the Indian squad for the remaining matches of the ODI series against New Zealand. Sundar sustained an injury during the first ODI played on Sunday.
According to BCCI medical updates, Sundar experienced sharp pain in his left lower rib area while bowling in the first ODI. He is scheduled for further scans, and the BCCI medical team will consult specialists to assess the severity of the injury. Consequently, Sundar will miss the next two ODIs in this IDFC First Bank ODI series.
The men’s selection committee has included Ayush Badoni in place of Sundar. Badoni is expected to join the team in Rajkot ahead of the second ODI. Sundar is also part of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, so his injury is a setback for the team.
Twenty-six-year-old Badoni, who hails from Delhi, has been performing in domestic cricket and has played 21 first-class and 27 List A matches. In first-class cricket, he has scored 1,681 runs including four centuries and seven half-centuries, with a highest unbeaten score of 205. In List A cricket, he has scored 693 runs in 22 innings, including one century and five half-centuries.
Ayush Badoni is a right-handed aggressive batsman and represents the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League. He has been part of LSG since 2022 and has played 56 matches over four seasons, scoring 963 runs with six half-centuries and remaining not out 10 times.
