Axar Patel and David Miller Lead Delhi Capitals to Historic Chase Victory

Dharamshala, May 12: In a thrilling encounter of IPL 2026, the Delhi Capitals (DC) triumphed over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) by three wickets on Monday. This victory marked DC’s successful chase of their second-largest target in IPL history. Chasing a formidable score of 211 runs set by PBKS, DC achieved the target in just 19 overs, losing seven wickets in the process.

This chase also stands as the highest successful run chase at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. Previously, in 2010, the Chennai Super Kings successfully chased down a target of 193 runs against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). However, DC’s innings did not start well, with Abhishek Porel departing for just 5 runs and KL Rahul returning to the pavilion after scoring only 9. Sahil Prakash also struggled, contributing a mere 13 runs before falling to Arshdeep Singh. Tristan Stubbs was dismissed for 12 runs, run out in a crucial moment.

At 74 runs, with four wickets down, the Delhi Capitals faced a daunting challenge. Captain Axar Patel and David Miller steadied the innings, forming a vital partnership of 64 runs for the fifth wicket off just 34 balls. Axar scored a remarkable 56 runs off 30 balls, hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes. Miller supported him well with 51 runs from 28 balls, including 3 fours and 4 sixes. Ashutosh Sharma added a quick 24 runs off 10 balls, while Madhav Tiwari remained unbeaten with 18 runs from just 8 balls. Akib Nabi also chipped in with 10 runs off 2 balls, sealing the victory for the Delhi Capitals and marking their fifth win of the season.

Earlier, the Punjab Kings set a challenging total of 210 runs after losing 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Priyansh Arya was the standout performer for PBKS, scoring a brilliant 56 runs off 33 balls. Captain Shreyas Iyer also made a significant contribution, remaining not out with 59 runs from 36 balls, including 5 fours and 3 sixes. Cooper Connolly added 38 runs from 27 balls, while Suryansh Shedge scored 21 runs off just 8 balls in the closing overs. For Delhi Capitals, Madhav Tiwari and Mitchell Starc each took 2 wickets.
