Chris Bowen, Australias Climate Change and Energy Minister, rides an electric rickshaw in New Delhi, emphasizing clean energy innovation.

New Delhi, September 25 (Daily Kiran) : Australia’s Climate Change and Energy Minister, Chris Bowen, took an electric rickshaw ride during his official visit to New Delhi on September 25. A video shared by Australian High Commissioner Philip Green on social media showed Bowen enjoying the ride and later taking the driver’s seat himself.

The High Commissioner noted that Bowen’s journey in the electric rickshaw was intended to closely observe innovations that drive clean energy transitions. Bowen is in India to strengthen Australia’s fuel security and collaborate with international partners on global energy security.

On Wednesday, Bowen met with India’s Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav. They discussed key agenda items for the upcoming pre-COP ministerial meeting in Fiji and COP31 in Turkey.

Yadav expressed his pleasure in meeting Bowen, highlighting the meaningful discussions they had regarding crucial topics for the upcoming climate conferences. He also emphasized India’s ambitious climate actions over the past decade under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and reiterated India’s commitment to supporting Australia’s role as chair of the COP31 negotiations.

Bowen remarked on India’s essential role in shaping the future of global climate and energy policy. He pointed out that the country’s expansion in clean energy demonstrates that a transition to clean sources can enhance economic prosperity.

During a pre-COP dialogue titled “Partners in Green Transition: Advancing Ambition, Action, and Partnerships for COP31,” Bowen stated that India’s experience will be vital in accelerating efforts to implement climate commitments. The dialogue, organized by the Chintan Research Foundation in collaboration with the Australian High Commission, brought together policymakers, diplomats, researchers, and climate experts to discuss priorities ahead of COP31 in November 2026.

In his keynote speech, Bowen highlighted that India is showing the world that clean energy is not a barrier to prosperity, but rather a pathway to it. He emphasized that COP31 will be inclusive and transparent, focusing on electrification and investment certainty as key priorities.

The Australian minister also stressed the importance of amplifying the voices of Pacific Island nations at pre-COP events in Fiji and Tuvalu.
