Darwin, August 8: The Bangladesh cricket team faced a significant defeat against the Cricket Australia XI during a practice match on their tour of Australia. Bangladesh lost by an innings and 38 runs. Following this defeat, head coach Phil Simmons voiced his concerns regarding the team’s batting performance.
According to Cricinfo, Simmons stated, “I think we disappointed with the bat in this practice match. You can see how we got out. It wasn’t good.”
He added, “I believe we have three days to work on what we need to do properly for the Test match. I am confident that the players will work hard over the next three days to reach our desired position for that Test match. It was a frustrating match, but now we look forward to the Test match.”
Bangladesh delivered a disappointing performance in the practice match. Batting first, they scored 263 runs, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz making an unbeaten 109 runs. On the Australia XI side, Corey Rochikio took the most wickets, claiming six.
The Cricket Australia XI scored 355 runs in their first innings, taking a lead of 92 runs over Bangladesh. Tige Willey scored 130 runs, Jake Doran contributed 76, and captain Curtis Patterson added 53 runs.
In their second innings, Bangladesh collapsed for just 54 runs, resulting in a loss by an innings and 38 runs. Tanzid Hasan was the only batsman to reach double digits. Campbell Thompson from Australia took eight wickets.
Bangladesh will play a Test match on Australian soil for the first time in 23 years, with the first Test starting on August 13.
