Brisbane, December 8. Australia is preparing to make some tough selection decisions for the upcoming Test match in Adelaide. The key debate is whether to include Michael Neser, who delivered an impressive performance at the Gabba, in the playing eleven. After strong displays in the first two Tests, Australia aims to secure the series win in the third Ashes Test.

Neser was brought in at the Brisbane day-night Test, replacing seasoned spinner Nathan Lyon. He proved his worth by taking five wickets in England’s second innings.

Captain Pat Cummins is set to return for the Adelaide Test. There is also speculation that selectors might recall Nathan Lyon to ensure the team balance suits Adelaide’s conditions. Batsman Marnus Labuschagne commented that selectors always choose the players with the best chance to help the team win.

Labuschagne said, “I am not a selector, but I can say they analyze every match carefully and know the best way to win in pink-ball cricket. Decisions are based on whether fast bowlers or other types of bowlers will be more effective.”

If Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, and Josh Hazlewood return in Adelaide, some players will have to make way, despite notable performances from Neser, Scott Boland, and Brendan Doggett at the Gabba.

Neser’s role in England’s second innings was particularly crucial. Labuschagne noted that this performance was not surprising. “Taking five wickets with the old ball was remarkable. I expected he would get a chance. He was a bit nervous in the first innings but showed excellent skill in the second innings,” he said.

Labuschagne also highlighted that Neser contributes significantly with his bowling, batting, and fielding.

Australia defeated England by eight wickets in Brisbane to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. The team now has over a week before the Adelaide Test starts on December 17.
