Mumbai, April 28: A knife attack on two security guards in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road has led to the case being handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). The incident involved Jabir Ansari, who allegedly attacked the guards after questioning their religion. The Maharashtra government decided to transfer the case to the ATS due to the emergence of a religious jihad angle.
The attack occurred when Jabir Ansari targeted security guards Rajkumar Mishra and Subrato, questioning them about their Hindu faith and their inability to recite the Kalma. Following the incident, the ATS conducted a search of Jabir’s residence, uncovering literature linked to ISIS and other extremist Islamic texts, including materials related to lone wolf attacks. Jabir’s parents are currently in the United States, and the government is coordinating with the embassy for official communication. Investigations are underway to determine if Jabir had connections with any terrorist organizations or handlers.
In a public address in Solapur, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated, “This young man had been living in the U.S. and recently returned. Initial investigations suggest he was drawn to extremist ideologies and allegedly attacked members of the Hindu community in the name of ‘jihad.’ The case is currently under investigation by both the ATS and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and the state government is providing full cooperation to both agencies.”
BJP leader Kirit Somaiya commented on the rising jihadist tendencies in Maharashtra, noting that security guard Mishra, who was seriously injured, has undergone surgery. Somaiya visited the hospital to check on Mishra’s condition and spoke with his family, although he remains unconscious.
The building’s caretaker, where Jabir Ansari resided, remarked, “He did not talk to anyone. He was always absorbed in his own work. I have known him for four months, and he was usually alone.”
BJP MLA Narendra Mehta from Mira-Bhayandar stated, “A youth named Zaid Jabir Ansari launched a deadly attack on two Hindu security guards. One guard is seriously injured, while the other is out of danger. It is deplorable that before attacking, Zaid questioned their caste and religion. The ATS apprehended the accused within 24 hours, and the investigation is ongoing. They are interrogating him to uncover who orchestrated this attack, and revelations will come soon.”
