Guwahati, February 9: The political landscape in Assam has intensified following a press conference held by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. During this event, Sarma made serious allegations against Congress leader and MP Gaurav Gogoi, referencing a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report that purportedly links Gogoi to a Pakistan connection. In response, Gogoi has defended himself, stating that Sarma’s claims are an attempt to divert public attention from a controversial 4,000-acre land issue.
Gogoi countered Sarma’s accusations, expressing, “I am pleased that he listened to my press conference. However, I must clarify that the allegations made during his two-hour press conference are baseless and false. I have already addressed these accusations. I visited Takshashila, a historic and significant educational center, and I believe everyone should have the opportunity to visit it.”
He further stated, “Takshashila is far from Islamabad, and it seems the Chief Minister is trying to confuse the people of Assam, especially since his own family is implicated in the illegal occupation of 4,000 acres of government land. There appears to be an effort to distract the public from these issues.”
When questioned about his trip to Pakistan, Gogoi explained, “I traveled to Pakistan a few months after my wedding with my wife, who was participating in an international program at the time. We went with NGOs from other countries to understand how people live and sustain themselves there. We were not involved in any meetings with Pakistanis.”
Regarding the murder case of singer Jubin Garg, Gogoi remarked, “The investigative agency seems to be suppressing the case and preventing the truth from emerging, as Singaporean investigation agencies have reported differently compared to our local agencies.”
