Guwahati, May 13: Assam Police conducted an extensive interrogation of senior Congress leader Pawan Khera on Wednesday at the Guwahati Crime Branch office, lasting more than 11 hours. This questioning is linked to a case initiated by an FIR filed by Rinki Bhuyan Sarma, the wife of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
After the lengthy session, Khera emerged from the Crime Branch office in the evening. He informed the media that he has been summoned again for further questioning on Thursday morning. “I have been asked to appear at the Crime Branch office at 9:30 AM tomorrow,” he stated.
Khera emphasized his cooperation with the investigation, expressing respect for the law. “I am cooperating with the police. I am a law-abiding citizen and will continue to assist in the investigation,” he said.
Previously, the Supreme Court granted Khera anticipatory bail in this matter, instructing him to cooperate with the investigation without fear of arrest.
Speaking to the media outside the Crime Branch office, Khera expressed his trust in the judiciary and reiterated his commitment to following the law.
The case stems from a complaint lodged by Rinki Bhuyan Sarma at the Guwahati Crime Branch station. The complaint alleges that Khera publicly claimed she possesses multiple foreign passports and has financial interests abroad.
The FIR includes several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), addressing issues such as false statements related to elections, fraud, forgery of valuable documents, and defamation.
