
Guwahati, August 11: The Standing Finance Committee (SFC) of the Assam government has reviewed and approved financial proposals exceeding ₹66 crore from four departments.
The committee emphasized the prudent use of government funds, timely project completion, and measurable developmental outcomes. The proposals are linked to the Departments of Women and Child Development, Home and Political, Transport, and Industry, Commerce, and Public Enterprises.
Among the key proposals, the committee considered an allocation of ₹25 crore for the Women and Child Development Department for the fiscal year 2026-27. Of this, ₹10 crore is earmarked for providing utensil kits to pre-school children enrolled in Anganwadi centers, while ₹15 crore is proposed under the ‘Terminal Benefit Scheme’ for Anganwadi workers, mini Anganwadi workers, and Anganwadi helpers.
The SFC also reviewed a proposal of ₹14.32 crore from the Home and Political Department under the ‘Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation Scheme.’ This initiative aims to provide one-time financial assistance of ₹4 lakh to 358 members of the Kuki and Hmar groups to aid their socio-economic rehabilitation. The program will be implemented through the Special Branch Headquarters, Assam. The committee noted that ₹32.57 crore is currently available under the relevant budget.
In the Transport Department, the committee re-approved ₹10.92 crore for the construction of the District Transport Office building in Amingaon, Kamrup district. The project has recorded 72% physical progress and 58.74% financial progress, with ₹6.41 crore already disbursed.
The committee directed officials to expedite the remaining work. A revised annual administrative proposal of ₹15.72 crore from the Department of Industry, Commerce, and Public Enterprises was also reviewed. This proposal includes the establishment of a dedicated 33 kV power line and control room along with a 2×5 MVA, 33/11 kV sub-station in the industrial estate at Dighalichapari, Sonitpur. The project has achieved 90% physical progress, with ₹6.74 crore already released. Once operational, it is expected to ensure reliable power supply to industries in the estate.
The SFC stressed the importance of strict adherence to financial and procurement rules, preventing fund diversion, and closely monitoring implementation.
