Assam Congress Lawmaker Accuses Akhil Gogoi of Undermining Party

Guwahati, May 24: Assam Congress legislator Nurul Huda accused Akhil Gogoi, the leader of the Raijor Dal and Sivasagar MLA, of attempting to politically undermine the Congress party while indirectly aiding the BJP.

Speaking to reporters, Huda claimed that Gogoi has evaded political accountability and is now focused on weakening Congress instead of strengthening opposition unity in the state.

Huda stated, “He is indeed working against Congress. By aligning with BJP interests, Akhil Gogoi is trying to cause political damage to our party.”

The Congress leader also emphasized that if Gogoi genuinely cared about opposition unity or coalition matters, he should address these issues during meetings with coalition partners rather than making public comments through the media.

He remarked, “If he considers himself a stakeholder in the opposition alliance, he should have raised these matters during coalition meetings or discussions among legislators. Making statements to the media only creates confusion.”

Nurul Huda pointed out that both the people of Assam and Congress leaders now understand the political motives behind Gogoi’s recent statements and actions.

According to Huda, Gogoi’s repeated public comments have raised doubts about his political stance and commitment to coordinating with the opposition ahead of the recent Assam Assembly elections.

The legislator dismissed claims that Congress leaders are avoiding communication with Gogoi, asserting that dialogue and coordination among coalition partners are essential in democratic politics.

Huda stated, “There is no question of avoiding anyone, but making irresponsible public statements for political fame is not right for the opposition.”

He further added that any internal disagreements among opposition parties should be resolved through discussion and consultation rather than public attacks.

These comments come amid rising political tensions among opposition parties following a significant defeat in the recently concluded Assembly elections. The BJP-led alliance secured 102 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly, leaving the opposition facing a substantial loss.
