Chandrapur, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Advanced Radar Research Facility in Chandrapur on Monday. He described this project as a crucial milestone in establishing Assam as a hub for advanced technological infrastructure.
In a post on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Sarma announced that the facility will be developed under Project NETRA. This initiative aims to enhance India’s capabilities in space situational awareness and improve tracking of objects in orbit.
Sarma emphasized the strategic importance of the radar research center, stating that it will bolster the country’s ability to monitor space assets and ensure the security of critical space infrastructure. He expressed pride in Assam’s selection for such a significant national project, noting that the state was once considered distant from India’s leading technology and research centers.
The Chief Minister stated, “It is gratifying to see Assam becoming a center for cutting-edge national infrastructure, especially for a state that was previously seen as away from India’s major technology hubs.” He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for choosing Assam for this strategic project and acknowledged the central government’s role in bringing this facility to the northeastern state.
The proposed radar research center is expected to contribute significantly to enhancing India’s capabilities in space monitoring and the security of satellites and other space-based assets. Such capabilities are increasingly vital as the number of objects in Earth’s orbit rises, with space infrastructure playing a crucial role in national security, communication, and scientific research.
