Assam Chief Minister Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Attempting to Overturn Government Amid Upcoming Rallies
Assams CM Himanta Biswa Sarma plans major rallies, accusing Rahul Gandhi of trying to change the government through protests.

Guwahati, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced major peaceful rallies scheduled for Tezpur, Dibrugarh, and Barpeta Road on Thursday. He accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of attempting to overturn the government through street protests and political pressure.
Sarma emphasized that a significant rally would take place in Tezpur, recognized as Assam’s cultural capital, to oppose Gandhi’s efforts to change the government via protests in New Delhi. He stated, “The mandate of millions of Indians cannot be overturned by the demonstrations of a few thousand political workers associated with the Congress Party.”
Highlighting the importance of democratic institutions and electoral processes, Sarma asserted that governments should be changed through elections, not through political threats or protests. “In a democracy, governments change through elections, not through political intimidation,” he added.
Referring to Dibrugarh as Assam’s second capital, Sarma announced similar rallies in Barpeta Road. He indicated that these planned demonstrations would affirm resistance to any attempts to change power through political pressure. The rallies are set against the backdrop of ongoing political tensions stemming from protests in the national capital and criticism of the ruling establishment by the Congress Party.
The Chief Minister’s announcement signals a concerted effort by the BJP leadership in Assam to rally public support against Congress’s political campaign, framing the rallies as a defense of the electoral mandate. However, details regarding expected crowd sizes or rally arrangements were not disclosed.
