Assam BTC Chief Criticizes Cockroach Peoples Party as a Political Entity

Assams BTC chief harshly criticizes the Cockroach Peoples Party during a youth festival, highlighting ongoing political tensions.

Guwahati, October 14 (Daily Kiran) : In Guwahati, on October 14, the Chief Executive Member of Assam’s Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Hagrama Mohilari, delivered a scathing critique of the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) during a public dialogue at the Bijni Youth Festival in Chirang district. He labeled the CJP as a political party while addressing attendees as the event’s chief guest.

The dialogue took place on the third day of the four-day festival organized by the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) at the Bijni District Sports Association grounds. During his speech, Mohilari reflected on his youth, recounting how his desire to participate in social movements impacted his education.

He reminisced about leaving his engineering studies after just two days to join the movement, stating, “I wanted to be part of the movement.” His remarks come in the context of recent controversies surrounding the CJP, a youth-led political organization that is currently campaigning against the Election Commission’s voter list revision exercise. The party is also demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

In September, Assam police detained CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka and over 30 party activists ahead of a regional volunteers’ meeting in Guwahati. The party alleged that this action was intended to prevent its members from holding the assembly. Those detained were subsequently released.

On Wednesday, following an incident related to a protest at Jantar Mantar, Ranka and another key leader, Saurabh Das, were placed in judicial custody in Delhi for five days. Police accused them of violating previous commitments and obstructing official duties, while the party vowed to continue its campaign.
