New Delhi, 30 December: Gujarat Giants have confirmed that Australian all-rounder Ashley Gardner will continue as the captain for the Women’s Premier League 2026. Gardner was handed the captaincy last season and led the team to their first-ever playoff appearance.

In a statement on their social media, Gujarat Giants said, “Experience at its peak. Confidence in her voice. Ashley Gardner will once again lead us as captain. She is ready to guide us to victory.”

A mega auction was conducted ahead of the Women’s Premier League 2026, leading to speculation that Gujarat might appoint a new captain. However, the team has shown faith in Gardner’s leadership.

Ashley Gardner has been part of Gujarat Giants since the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League in 2023. She has scored 568 runs and taken 25 wickets in 25 matches for the team. Gujarat retained her before the auction this year.

Last season, Gardner gained attention with her all-round performance. Batting in the middle order, she scored 243 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 164.18 and took eight wickets.

Gujarat Giants finished third last season with eight points from eight matches. Their campaign ended after a loss to Mumbai Indians.

The fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League will be held from 9 January to 5 February 2026. This time, the tournament will take place in Navi Mumbai and Vadodara. Gujarat Giants will play their first match against UP Warriors on 10 January in Navi Mumbai.

The Women’s Premier League 2026 is expected to be thrilling following the mega auction.
