New Delhi, May 18: Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva stated on Monday that the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Deepak Singla, following an ED investigation into a major bank scam, reveals yet another dark facet of the party.
Sachdeva pointed out that while allegations of corruption and embezzlement involving AAP’s national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have been widely discussed, the involvement of other AAP leaders in purchasing assets with black money, tax evasion, and bank loan fraud is now coming to light.
He expressed that the residents of Delhi are shocked by the allegations surrounding Singla’s millions in bank loans and the purported illegal misuse of those funds.
“This is not the first instance of financial misconduct by your leaders. From former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain to Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora, numerous names and their alleged misdeeds have already surfaced,” he added.
Praveen Shankar Kapoor, media chief of Delhi BJP, remarked that AAP has become a haven for economic criminals.
During a press conference, Kapoor noted that the fake companies allegedly run by Jain and the corruption cases that emerged in 2018-19 were dismissed by Kejriwal as a political conspiracy.
Since then, AAP leaders have continued to be arrested in corruption scandals, while the party has maintained that these cases are politically motivated.
However, the recent cases involving Punjab minister Arora and AAP leader Singla present a new face of corruption to Delhi and the nation.
Sachdeva emphasized the difficulty in imagining a state minister being arrested in a GST scam while three leaders who have contested elections are allegedly taking loans and committing fraud.
He concluded by stating that while Kejriwal may have provided full protection to Satyendar Jain, the public expects him to at least expel Sanjeev Arora and Deepak Singla from the party.
