New Delhi/Siliguri, March 4 : The Airborne and Special Forces of the Indian Army on Friday carried out a rehearsal of their aerial insertion capability and rapid response at Siliguri Corridor, Army sources said. The Siliguri Corridor, also known as Chicken’s Neck, is a strategically important narrow stretch of land bordering Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. In the exercise, combat freefallers of the Special Forces inserted from an altitude of 20,000 feet, along with logistic supply loads on precision guided platforms, sources said. The freefallers, after landing at a location in the Siliguri Corridor, established surveillance positions to guide accurate fire onto select enemy targets. As a follow up, an airborne force of 400 personnel was thereafter deployed by air in rapid succession to swiftly capture objectives. The Indian Army, post the 2017 Doklam stand-off, resorted to step up the security and defence of the geo-strategically important Corridor. ASU RJ
