Armed Robbery at Azamgarh Jewelry Store Ends in Arrests After Shootout

Azamgarh, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : In a dramatic turn of events in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, two armed robbers were apprehended after they attempted to steal a gold chain valued at approximately ₹1.10 lakh from a local jewelry store. The incident occurred in the Manjhari market area of the Tehbarpur police jurisdiction on September 18.

According to police reports, the suspects entered Raj Jewelers under the pretense of purchasing a gold chain weighing about 8 grams. They requested a QR code for payment, but when the funds did not transfer, they fled with the chain. As they made their escape, the shopkeeper and nearby residents pursued them. In a desperate attempt to evade capture, the robbers fired shots at their pursuers.

Local residents displayed remarkable bravery by cornering the suspects in the village of Bairampur. Tehbarpur police responded swiftly to the scene and took both individuals into custody. A search revealed that the suspects were armed with two .32 caliber pistols, two 315 caliber country-made guns, 18 live cartridges, one spent cartridge, three empty magazines, and other tools including a spade and screwdriver.

Police also seized a motorcycle believed to have been used in the crime. Both suspects are now facing charges under relevant sections of the law as the investigation continues. Chirag Jain, the additional superintendent of police for the rural area, confirmed that the police are conducting an extensive inquiry into the incident and are working to identify any additional accomplices involved.

This brazen robbery and subsequent shootout highlight ongoing concerns about safety in the region, prompting local authorities to enhance security measures in commercial areas.
