Arjun Ram Meghwal Slams DMK Government, Calls It Most Corrupt

New Delhi: Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal praised the decision by Justice Suryakant to keep courts open 24 hours, saying it reflects a positive sign when the legislature, executive, and judiciary all fulfil their responsibilities. Speaking exclusively to a news agency, Meghwal emphasised that such cooperation among the three branches will aid India’s progress and make life easier for citizens.

Addressing the opposition by Congress against the ‘Viksit Bharat-Ji Ram Ji’ employment scheme, Meghwal questioned Congress’s ground-level work during and after their tenure in power. He stated that feedback from people across states where Congress governs showed a demand for changes in the MGNREGA scheme. “When I met people, they raised issues regarding the timing of work during crucial farming seasons. We have made improvements, prioritising water security and drainage in the new law, which will improve rural conditions,” he explained.

On the Congress criticism about renaming schemes, Meghwal pointed out that the original ‘Jawahar Rozgar Yojana’ was renamed ‘NREGA’ and later ‘MGNREGA’. He said name changes are a normal part of policy adjustments based on ground realities. The current scheme guarantees 125 days of employment and provides allowances for those unable to get work, aiming to reduce corruption and support farmers during the planting season. He urged Congress to support the initiative instead of opposing it without clear reasons.

Responding to concerns over the Waqf Bill, Meghwal clarified that no state government can override central legislation as per the Indian Constitution’s three lists – Union, State, and Concurrent. “Some parties make political claims against the bill, but legally, states cannot counter central laws,” he said.

Launching a strong attack on the DMK government in Tamil Nadu, Meghwal accused it of failing to fulfil any of its promises, calling it the most corrupt among all state governments. He criticised the DMK for poor governance, rampant corruption, and nepotism. Meghwal expressed confidence that the people of Tamil Nadu would teach the DMK a lesson in the upcoming elections by electing the NDA government instead.

He also highlighted the recent foot march led by BJP Tamil Nadu President Nainar Nagendran, which saw participation from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, and himself. Meghwal described the rally as impressive and indicative of growing support.
