Vijayawada, April 22 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia to the gang rape victim, who is undergoing treatment in the Government General Hospital (GGH) here. The mentally retarded woman was gangraped in the GGH on April 21. The incident came to light 30 hours after the incident. A statement from the the Chief Minister’s office here on Friday said that the CM has announced Rs 10 lakh ex gratia to the gang rape victim. Reddy also instructed the police to take stringent action against the accused. A Circle Inspector and a Sub-inspector were placed under suspension for dereliction of duty and the government hospital security agency was issued termination notices. A departmental inquiry was also ordered on the dereliction of medical officers of the government general hospital. Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party National President and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who visited the rape victim in the GGH here today, had announced Rs 5 lakh financial assistance to the victim on behalf of the party. Tension prevailed at the government general hospital as Chandrababu Naidu and Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Vasireddy Padma went to the hospital at the same time. Large number of activists of TDP and women’s organisations tried to prevent Vasireddy Padma but the police pushed them aside and took her into the hospital. According to the parents of the rape victim, they live in Vambay colony here and found her 23-year mentally retarded daughter was missing. They approached Nunna police station and the officers there asked them to come in the evening. The next day the police called one of the accused Srikath to the police station who told the police he took the victim to the government general hospital on the pretext of marrying her and was confined in a store room and sexually assualted her. The parents immediately rushed to the hospital and went to the store room where they saw another accused Pawan Kalyan raping the girl, the parents told the media. The police arrested the three accused involved in the gang rape case. Commissioner of Police Kanthi Rana Tata suspended CI Hanish Kumar and SI Srinivas of Nunna police station for dereliction of duty. The gang rape of mentally retarded woman in the government general hospital has shocked all as the hospital is overcrowded with patients and their aides.
