Anurag Kashyap Advocates for Subedar to Release in Theaters

Mumbai, March 7: Anil Kapoor’s action thriller film “Subedar” is receiving widespread acclaim. Released on OTT, the film’s storyline, performances, and particularly Anil Kapoor’s thrilling action scenes are winning hearts. In light of this, renowned director Anurag Kashyap has called for the film to be released in theaters.

On Saturday, he shared a picture of Anil on his official Instagram account, stating, “Subedar is worth watching on Prime Video, but I believe it should have been released in theaters. Watching it in a cinema would have been even more enjoyable, as the film was shot with anamorphic lenses, enhancing the experience. The thrill of watching it with a crowd in a theater is unmatched.”

Anurag praised director Suresh Triveni for depicting the worlds of Bundelkhand and Chambal with depth and authenticity. He noted, “The film showcases the realities of a patriarchal society, where some women are as tough as men. It reflects a world where women like Phoolan Devi have emerged. The conditions there have not changed; in fact, they have worsened.”

The film follows the story of a former soldier, Arjun Maurya, who becomes trapped in a barbaric civil society. Anurag remarked, “This film is entirely fictional, yet it convincingly portrays tension, silence, pace, and realism. I watched it with noise-cancellation headphones and enjoyed it, but the experience of watching it in a theater with an audience would be even more spectacular.”

Additionally, Anurag praised the entire cast. He wrote, “Anil Kapoor brilliantly showcased inner rage and fire. Faisal Malik, Mona Singh, Aditya Rawal (the villain), and Radhika Madan delivered outstanding performances. Aditya’s villain role feels so real that it evokes hatred. Radhika is both fiery and sensitive. Kallu Mama’s action is also remarkable.”

The film’s cinematography is exceptional. The highway chase is depicted brilliantly, and the action feels authentic, especially when many are opting for over-the-top sequences these days. Kudos to all the cast and crew.
