Anupam Kher Defends Dhurandhar Amid Propaganda Claims

Mumbai, April 1: Indian cinema often finds itself embroiled in controversy upon the release of new films. This is the case with director Aditya Dhar’s film franchise ‘Dhurandhar.’ Some critics and viewers have labeled it a “propaganda film,” but veteran actor Anupam Kher has dismissed these claims, asserting that the true essence and success of a film lie in the audience’s preferences.

Kher praised the film and its creators, advising critics to ignore the negativity. He humorously remarked, “We should say ‘RIP’ to those who call films propaganda. We are giving them too much importance. They are irrelevant and unnecessary.”

He emphasized that such criticisms do not alter the film’s true value or the audience’s experience.

Kher further insisted, “The real success of any film depends on the audience, not on the narratives created by the media or critics. Viewers are discerning and make their own choices.”

He noted that, at times, controversies and debates in the film industry are exaggerated beyond the actual issues. “I believe we should appreciate the hard work of the artists who create films. Movies are made for the audience, and if they succeed at the box office, it indicates that the public enjoys them,” he stated.

Kher added, “Films also share emotions and experiences among viewers. Therefore, instead of focusing on the critics, we should look at the achievements and the audience’s response. Ultimately, the real winners are those favored by the audience. If a show is sold out, it is proof of the audience’s preference.”

The first part of the ‘Dhurandhar’ franchise received a positive response from viewers. Following this, its sequel, ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge,’ was released on March 19.
