Anna Hazare Discharged from Hospital, Vows to Serve People for Life

Mumbai, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Senior social activist and anti-corruption leader Anna Hazare was discharged from Bombay Hospital on Thursday after a ten-day stay due to a urinary infection. At 90 years old, Hazare expressed his unwavering commitment to serving the public for as long as he lives.

Speaking to reporters post-discharge, Hazare shared, “I am feeling better now. My health had deteriorated a bit, but I am improving.” He added, “I have dedicated my life to serving the people and my country. I want to continue this service until I reach 100 years of age.”

Hazare emphasized that true service is selfless and equates to worship. “Service is akin to the worship of God; it is not confined to temples. Serving the public is the highest form of devotion,” he stated.

He further remarked, “As long as I am alive, I want to serve the people. I have dedicated my entire life to this cause. I do not worry about my bank balance. Despite receiving benefits from various schemes, I have not saved any money for myself. For me, wealth is not the goal; serving people is.”

Dr. Gautam Bhansali from Bombay Hospital explained that Hazare was initially admitted to a hospital in Shirur due to viral fever and severe dehydration, which led to urinary complications and elevated creatinine levels, necessitating further treatment at Bombay Hospital.

Following the news of his hospitalization, supporters and well-wishers across the country expressed their hopes for Hazare’s swift recovery. Widely regarded as a leading social reformer, Hazare has transformed his village, Ralegan Siddhi in Ahmednagar district, into a model community through initiatives in water conservation, afforestation, rural self-reliance, and drug de-addiction.
