Mohali, March 17: Shahbaz Singh Sohi, the husband of Kharar MLA Anmol Gagan Mann, has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Derabassi Court in a cheque bounce case involving millions of rupees. The court found Sohi and two other individuals guilty in connection with a housing project dispute.
The ruling was delivered by Judicial Magistrate First Class Parneet Kaur after a trial that lasted nearly seven years. Alongside Sohi, the court also sentenced the other two defendants to two years in jail and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 each. However, all three defendants secured bail immediately by paying the required amount.
The case was initiated in 2018 when Kamaljeet Singh, brother of former Zirkpur sarpanch Jaspal Singh, filed a complaint. He alleged that Shahbaz Singh Sohi, Jatinder Singh, and Nachhattar Singh, partners in the company ‘M/s Platinum Smart Buildcon,’ had entered into a deal to sell a plot worth ₹3.5 crore in the ‘Silver City’ project in Rajpura. When the deal fell through, a cheque for ₹3.5 crore was issued but subsequently bounced. After hearing both sides, the court ruled in favor of the complainant, leading to the sentencing of the three defendants.
Bharat Joshi, the lawyer representing the complainant, confirmed that the verdict came after a lengthy seven-year trial.
Shahbaz Singh Sohi’s wife, Anmol Gagan Mann, serves as a minister in the Punjab government and is also a well-known Punjabi singer, recognized for her folk and Bhangra songs.
