Andhra Pradesh CM Orders Investigation into Food Poisoning Incident

Amaravati, February 8: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has ordered an investigation into a food poisoning incident that affected 92 tribal students at a government ashram boys’ hostel.

The incident occurred on Saturday in Devarapalli village, located in the Rampachodavaram mandal of Polavaram district.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to submit a report by Monday and emphasized that strict action would be taken against those found negligent.

On Sunday, CM Naidu held a review meeting with officials from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and other departments, providing necessary directives.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that the 92 students at the Devarapalli ashram boys’ hostel exhibited symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, fever, and diarrhea. They were promptly admitted to hospitals in Maridumilli and Rampachodavaram.

It was reported that the students began experiencing abdominal pain and vomiting after breakfast on Saturday, leading to their hospitalization. Currently, all students are in stable condition.

Officials also reported that they visited the hostel immediately after the incident to assess the situation. An initial medical check-up was conducted for the remaining students, and those showing symptoms of diarrhea received treatment.

To ensure the students’ health, a medical camp has been set up, and samples of food and water have been collected for testing. A joint inspection committee has also been formed to investigate the incident.

CM Naidu directed that the health of the students receiving treatment at the Rampachodavaram area hospital be monitored continuously, with daily updates on their condition.

He also instructed officials to initiate departmental action against those responsible for the incident and to consider criminal proceedings if necessary.
