Ancient Temple in Muzaffarpur Becomes Spiritual Hub During Navratri

The ancient Maa Pitamberi Baglamukhi temple in Muzaffarpur draws devotees during Navratri, offering unique rituals and spiritual experiences.

Muzaffarpur, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : The Maa Pitamberi Baglamukhi Siddhpeeth in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, is a focal point of faith and devotion this Navratri, celebrating over 250 years of history. Located on Kachchi Sarai Road in Mithanpura, the temple sees a constant stream of worshippers throughout the day, with special night rituals and tantric ceremonies taking place after sunset.

As Navratri begins, the temple is beautifully adorned, attracting devotees from across Bihar and beyond. Worship practices at the temple blend both Vedic and tantric traditions. Believers come seeking mental peace and fulfillment of their desires through the blessings of Maa Baglamukhi. The temple’s head priest, Devaraj Maharaj, noted that the site has a rich history of about two and a half centuries.

According to tradition, the temple’s founder, Rupul Prasad, commissioned the idol of Maa Baglamukhi from artisans in Kolkata. Renovations to give the temple its current form began in 1993-94. The sanctum houses an idol of the goddess with ten arms, crafted from Ashtadhatu (an alloy of eight metals). The priest mentioned that during Navratri, the temple hosts special prayers, grand yajnas, and other religious ceremonies.

The yellow attire and offerings are particularly significant due to the goddess’s association with the color. Devotees present turmeric, yogurt, and grass as part of their worship. Following temple traditions, performing rituals for 21 consecutive days holds special importance. One of the temple’s unique features is the Sahasradal Mahayantra, located directly beneath the sanctum.

This Mahayantra is used for the practice of Mahavidyas, and during Navratri, devotees participate in night prayers from 11 PM to 2 AM. This includes a milk abhishekam and other rituals performed according to specific guidelines. Such unique practices set this temple apart from other religious sites.

A visitor expressed deep faith in Maa Baglamukhi, stating, “Visiting and worshipping during Navratri brings peace to my mind. The worship methods and spiritual atmosphere here create a special experience. We pray for our family’s prosperity and everyone’s well-being.”

The temple complex also houses shrines for Maa Tripura Sundari, Maa Tara, and Kal Bhairav, where devotees engage in worship. A special havan is planned for the day of Mahanavami, with a large turnout expected. Throughout the nine days of religious observances, this Siddhpeeth remains a significant center of Muzaffarpur’s religious and cultural heritage.
