Anamika Jain Ambar Calls UGC Law One-Sided, Stresses Need for Fair Hearing

Meerut: Renowned poet and writer Anamika Jain Ambar has expressed her concerns regarding the newly proposed UGC law, describing it as one-sided. She emphasised that a law can only be considered just when both parties involved are given an equal opportunity to be heard.

Speaking clearly, she stated that if only one side is heard while the other side’s viewpoint is accepted beforehand, such a process cannot be deemed fair or just.

Anamika Jain Ambar further remarked that decisions should be based on reason and evidence rather than prejudice. She insisted that no judgment should be predetermined and that every case deserves a full chance for the truth to emerge. This, she said, is the essence of true justice.

Raising serious questions about the new UGC legislation, she pointed out the absence of provisions to hear the concerns of the general (savarna) category. She stated, “Regardless of what is said, an act is enforced as it is, and penalties are imposed accordingly. If there is no opportunity to be heard, the system becomes one-sided.”

The poet appealed to the government not to favour one group at the expense of another. She clarified that her intention is not to speak against any community but to assert that justice must be delivered to all, including OBC, SC, and ST groups.

She also highlighted the importance of hearing all parties involved whenever a complaint or First Information Report (FIR) is registered. “If the chance to uncover the truth is denied, it becomes predetermined who is at fault. This ultimately destroys the very spirit of justice,” she added.

Anamika Jain Ambar explained that her opposition to the UGC law stems from the fact that it does not ensure a fair hearing. She described it as a one-sided law where, without hearing the truth, the process merely becomes a formality of delivering decisions.
