New Delhi, February 11: BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari has accused Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra of alleged tax evasion and fraud under income tax laws.
Bhandari shared documents and references on his social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Instead of filing fake cases to intimidate people on social media, she should respond to the allegations.”
He raised questions about whether Moitra intentionally engaged in tax evasion and fraud through transactions linked to her husband, former BJD MP Pinaki Mishra’s company.
Bhandari demanded clarification from Moitra on why she allegedly provided professional services to the company ‘White Lily’, controlled by Mishra. He referenced a statement from Mishra in a May 8, 2014 interview, where he claimed that the company had no active business and labeled it a shell company.
The post questioned whether the company was used to disguise payments as ‘professional fees’ for fraudulent purposes, and if transactions between Moitra and her husband fall under tax evasion or other irregularities as per Section 276 of the Income Tax Act.
Bhandari further stated that these transactions raise serious questions about improper conduct, potential inducement under tax laws, and violations of parliamentary ethics according to the functioning and conduct rules of the Lok Sabha.
He appealed to the Income Tax Department for official attention and compared Moitra’s alleged habit of filing cases to intimidate critics on social media to these actions.
These allegations come amid Moitra’s recent personal developments, including her marriage to Pinaki Mishra in a private ceremony in Germany in 2025. Mishra, a four-time Lok Sabha member from Puri, Odisha, is a senior advocate with reported stakes in several family-owned companies, including White Lily Estates Private Limited and Jupiter Estates Private Limited.
So far, Moitra, the MP from Krishnanagar in West Bengal, has not publicly responded to these new allegations. She has been in the spotlight for her outspoken style and past controversies, such as the cash-for-query scandal.
