Mumbai, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Akshay Kumar, a prominent figure in Indian cinema, has showcased his versatility across action, comedy, and emotional roles throughout his extensive career. However, there have been instances where he lost out on major film projects, even after they achieved cult status or box office success. Here’s a look at some notable films where Kumar was replaced.
In January 1991, Kumar signed on for the film “Honeymoon,” but he was later replaced by Rishi Kapoor. Directed by Partho Ghosh, Kapoor played the lead role of Suraj Verma, and the film turned out to be a box office success.
In 2005, during the filming of “Barsaat,” Bobby Deol took over Kumar’s role due to concerns from the filmmaker regarding personal and family issues linked to co-star Priyanka Chopra. Reports indicated that Kumar’s wife, Twinkle Khanna, was uncomfortable with him working alongside Chopra, prompting him to step back for the sake of his marriage.
The sequel “Welcome Back,” released in 2015, saw John Abraham stepping into the role originally intended for Kumar. Director Anees Bazmee noted that the character from the first film, “Welcome,” did not fit into the sequel’s storyline.

Kumar’s iconic role in the 2007 hit “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” as Dr. Aditya Srivastava was not reprised in its sequels, with Kartik Aaryan taking over in “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2” and “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.” The character remains a beloved figure among fans, still generating memes and discussions on social media.
