Lucknow, June 23: Following the tragic fire incident in Lucknow that claimed at least 15 lives, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday. He questioned the government’s responsibility in monitoring commercial activities in residential areas.
Speaking to reporters during a community event, Yadav stated, “Yesterday’s incident is heartbreaking, as many students lost their lives. Most of those who went there for coaching, jobs, or work perished. I have also heard that children were calling their parents and family members.”
He added, “Some children were calling their fathers, while others were reaching out to their brothers. Many of them even contacted the fire brigade. Just think about the families who have lost their children; what could be more tragic than that?”
Accusing the government of being involved in corruption that leads to loss of life, he remarked that this is not the first incident in Lucknow where people have died due to negligence.
Yadav referenced previous incidents in the city, saying, “Earlier, there was a fire in a slum area, which may have been intentional. A similar incident occurred in Charbagh. We cannot forget that a fire in a famous hotel in Hazratganj also resulted in fatalities.”
He emphasized, “Many children lost their lives yesterday. Commercial activities were taking place in a residential area.”
Questioning the Uttar Pradesh government’s accountability, he remarked, “What is the government’s responsibility? The easiest way for the government to evade accountability is to form an SIT.”
Comparing the situation to the SIT investigating the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Yadav expressed, “It seems there has been no government for the last ten years. Their level of corruption has crossed all limits.”
He further alleged, “This BJP government is only about looting.”
