Lucknow, April 28: The political landscape in Uttar Pradesh has intensified following the emergence of a viral video featuring IPS officer Ajay Pal Sharma, known for his encounter specialist reputation. The video, related to the West Bengal elections, has prompted Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav to demand action against the officer.
During a media interaction in Lucknow, Yadav stated, “I do not know where this video originated or how it was posted. However, if an officer, especially an IPS officer, behaves in such a manner, action must be taken. It should not be the case that someone exploits their weaknesses. What we have seen in Uttar Pradesh so far is that the government is pressuring IPS officers and officials based on their vulnerabilities, leading to injustice for many. Perhaps this is the same officer who has committed large-scale injustices.”
After meeting with the victim’s family from the Ghazipur incident, Yadav remarked that the current government operates differently. “It generally does not engage with the media or party representatives. Nevertheless, I am pleased that our delegation met with the victim’s family. We aimed to assist them, and with funds raised by their community and contributions from our party, we were able to provide them with financial aid of 500,000 rupees. However, the quest for justice remains incomplete. The family deserves justice, and the false cases against SP workers should be withdrawn by the government.”
In a post on X, Yadav expressed that the inappropriate video of a senior police officer from Uttar Pradesh, who served as an observer during the Bengal elections, has severely tarnished the image of the Uttar Pradesh government’s administration. He added that the BJP government’s claims of ‘women’s honor’ and ‘respect for women’ have been completely exposed in front of women. Such individuals and officers are not exceptions under BJP rule. Women feel that if those responsible for their safety behave in such a manner, how can their security be ensured? Today, every woman associated with the BJP feels ashamed, as sisters and daughters are also part of their households. It remains to be seen how quickly these officials will be suspended or dismissed.
