Chandigarh, February 23: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav stated that the primary goal is to defeat the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.
During a media interaction in Chandigarh, Yadav emphasized the importance of the India bloc, asserting that it is established and will continue to exist. He highlighted that the focus is on strategizing how to overcome the BJP in both states. The Uttar Pradesh assembly election is not just about 2027; it will also set the direction for 2029.
Yadav warned against those who engage in divisive politics, urging caution as they could create situations that fracture society. He mentioned that Chandigarh is close to Uttar Pradesh, with Saharanpur not far away either. Chandigarh is a well-planned city, and he noted that if other cities adopted its planning model post-independence, they might have been better developed. He pointed out existing issues in Delhi that need addressing, citing an incident where police prevented Shankaracharya from bathing, which he deemed disrespectful given that the Chief Minister is from the same religious background.
The SP leader also raised concerns about the SIR being used to manipulate votes, advising all opposition parties to remain vigilant. He explained that in Uttar Pradesh, they have faced systematic attempts to delete votes through Form 7 applications, often targeting individuals who may now be working in Punjab. Instead of adding votes, the focus appears to be on removing them, leaving four million people in UP scrambling for documentation.
Regarding the AI summit, Yadav criticized the actions taken by Galgotias, asserting that it was a mistake on the part of the Indian government. He called for verification of what delegates were planning at the event. He questioned the role of government agencies, asking what actions were taken against them if they failed to anticipate protests.
