New Delhi, March 9 : The BJP on Wednesday slammed Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav for spreading “misinformation” regarding tempering of electronic voting machines and alleged that such remarks were “undemocratic and unconstitutional”. “Spreading lies and inciting citizens is a serious and grave offence and Akhilesh Yadav and his cohorts must be held accountable and be charged under the Election code and Indian Penal Code,” BJP UP in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan told reporters. “Casting doubts over a constitutional body like EC is unfortunate and reflects the mindset of a person who himself holds a Constitutional post,” Pradhan said. On Tuesday, Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of “stealing” votes and claimed that the EVMs used in Varanasi were being transported by road and tampered with. “The Samajwadi Party is winning Ayodhya, that is why the BJP is scared. Election Commission officials are tampering the EVMs,” he said. “Rattled by exit polls and apprehending a humiliating defeat in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party and their affiliates have started to make familiar noises that they always have made in the past blaming EVMs, VVPATs and the Election Commission,” the BJP said.
