Ajmatullah Omarzai Breaks Records with Stunning Century in Afghanistans Victory Over Zimbabwe

Ajmatullah Omarzais record-breaking century leads Afghanistan to victory against Zimbabwe in a thrilling T20 match.

Sharjah, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : Afghanistan’s Ajmatullah Omarzai has solidified his reputation as one of the best all-rounders in the game. On October 30, during a T20 match against Zimbabwe in Sharjah, Omarzai delivered a record-breaking performance that clinched victory for his team.

Facing a challenging situation at 5 runs for 4 wickets, Omarzai stepped up to the crease at number six. He played a pivotal role in guiding Afghanistan to a formidable total, ensuring that victory was merely a matter of time.

Omarzai’s explosive innings of 116 runs came off just 50 balls, featuring 5 fours and an impressive 12 sixes. His efforts helped propel Afghanistan to a score of 221 runs for 7 wickets in their 20 overs. He received valuable support from Ejaz Ahmadzai, who scored 52 runs from 27 balls. Together, they formed a remarkable partnership, amassing 142 runs for the sixth wicket in just 59 balls.

With this century, Omarzai made history as the first player from a full-member team to score a T20 International century while batting at number six or lower. The previous record was held by England’s Sam Billings, who scored 87 runs against the West Indies in 2019.

Omarzai’s 12 sixes also set a new record. He became the first player from a full-member team to hit 10 or more sixes in a single T20 International innings while batting at number six or lower. The former record was jointly held by Kieron Pollard of the West Indies, Dasun Shanaka of Sri Lanka, and Tristan Stubbs of South Africa, each of whom managed 8 sixes in similar positions.

In the match, despite Zimbabwe’s captain Sikandar Raza scoring an impressive unbeaten 106 runs off 56 balls, the team fell short, finishing with 202 runs for 5 wickets, and lost by 19 runs.
