Ajay Kumar resigns as UP Congress chief

Lucknow, March 15 : Taking moral responsibility of party’s defeat in the recently-concluded Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Congress state president in Uttar Pradesh, Ajay Kumar Lallu resigned from the post on Tuesday. In the letter sent to Congress national president Sonia Gandhi, Lallu said that he, along with other office bearers, worked hard and with full dedication and even took the party to the village level. Besides, he said he also struggled against the policies of the state government from time to time. However, the grand old party had to face an unprecedented defeat, Lallu said, adding that taking moral responsibility, he was resigning from the post. “I am indebted to you for putting in faith in a common worker like me and appointing me as the state president, I will continue to work with full dedication,” he said. Lallu was two-times MLA from Tamkuhi Raj seat in Kushinagar district of eastern UP. This time, he was at the third spot. Congress could manage only two seats in this time, registering a decrease of five seats from the last Assembly elections. AB RJ
