Air quality in Delhi-NCR remains in severe category; Odd-Even Scheme to be implemented from tomorrow

In the wake of rising air pollution, Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority has already imposed a ban on all the construction activities in Delhi and NCR region till Tuesday morning. The authority has also banned cracker burning for this entire winter period. Meanwhile, Delhi government said rising air pollution may cause respiratory illness in healthy people on prolonged exposure and even pronounced respiratory or other serious illnesses in vulnerable population even on short exposure.

It has issued a health advisory asking people to avoid outdoor physical activities, especially during morning and late evening hours. The vulnerable population has been asked to strictly avoid outdoor physical activities and remain indoors and keep activity levels low to protect health from pollution.

The scheme restrictions will also not applicable on two-wheelers, vehicles being used for medical emergencies, for women and vehicles carrying school children and electric vehicles.As many as 2,000 additional buses will be deployed during the period. To cater to the commuters, all cluster buses will also be deployed along with the entire fleet of DTC buses.

Delhi Metro will also make 61 additional trips during the 12-day scheme.e Delhi government has also decided to stagger working hours of its offices during the implementation of the scheme. Two separate timings of the opening of Delhi Government offices have been fixed at 9:30 AM to 6 PM and 10: 30 AM to 7 PM.

However, Private offices in the national capital will not come under the government order. Delhi Police has identified 200 traffic points to implement the scheme and challan will be done on the spot through e-challan system.
