New Delhi, March 20 : : The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi has started emergency services in the Burns and Plastic Surgery (BPS) block of the hospital, officials said on Sunday. The hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr DK Sharma said the emergency ward will have eight observation beds for patient care services. According to the doctors, the emergency service at the BPS block will help the patients with burn injuries to get separate and immediate care. The BPS block is a relatively new facility of AIIMS. The 100-bed dedicated facility to treat patients suffering from burn injuries was inaugurated last year by then on health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. AIIMS is among the handful of hospitals to have a dedicated facility for treating burn victims. Such facility is available only at select hospitals like the Centre-run Safdarjung Hospital and Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital and the Delhi government-run Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP). The BPS block consists of 30 separate cubicles in ICU, 10 isolation private rooms and six operation theatres. It also has designated areas for the development of skin banking facilities, paediatric physiotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and burn hydrotherapy, among others, according to an official.
